In the five-track album “Volumes”, RTK continues his explorations of drones, beat frequencies, and spatial interrelations. Through a radical focus on minimalism, harmonic relations and shifts in timbre become principal events rather than side effects. Like in hypnagogic sleep, the state of the in-between becomes the main destination. As the album slowly unfolds to the listener, layers are superimposed, and a fleeting temporality is established - only to dissolve again into the micro rhythms of beat frequencies. In this album, sound waves are conceptualized as volumes of air, interfering with each other, inhabiting space, and building tensions and harmonies as they’re confronted with their coexistence.
